Marilyn Rumsey, MSW, MPH, CEAP, is a Senior Consultant
with Dawson & Dawson Consultants with expertise in executive coaching; team building;
managing change; conflict resolution and Employee Assistance Programs (EAP). For over
twenty years, Ms. Rumsey has provided psychotherapy specializing in marital, family and
substance abuse problems. She is a national speaker and has done training, coaching and
consulting in both the private and public sector around interpersonal employee and
leadership concerns. She is also trained as a mediator.
Ms. Rumsey has been providing executive coaching and management skills
development, and team building to such companies as BPAmoco in both Houston and the UK;
Texas Children's Hospital, Albis Plastics; Smith Barney, Wisenberg Insurance and Arthur
Andersen. One of her specialties is working with family-owned businesses around the
interpersonal dynamics related to the family and business overlap.
Ms. Rumsey has published numerous articles on innovative approaches to
managing employees, including such topics as; intervening with executives, approaching
performance problems from a multilevel review, and dealing with a work team when a key
employee is on medical leave. She was the principal author of Ethics in Workplace
Counseling, a casebook published through the International EAP Association.
Ms. Rumsey is a Past President of the Houston chapter of EAPA, and is
the founder of the Houston EAPA Ethics committee. She serves on the International EAPA
ethics committee, and served a three-year appointment as a commissioner of the Employee
Assistance Commission of Certification (EACC).
Ms. Rumsey received her undergraduate degree from the University of
Texas at Austin, her Masters in Social Work for the University of Houston, and her Masters
in Public Health from the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston.
